Contest: Rayland Baxter at Exit/In

14 Nov

There are few things we at N4F love more than concerts, but giving away tickets for concerts is definitely one of them. Our friends at AEG Live have given us the hook-up for some pretty sweet shows lately and they’re keeping the awesome going by letting us have yet ANOTHER sweet contest. Friends, I’d like to present you with a chance to win tickets to see Rayland Baxter with The Kingston Springs & Birdcloud at Exit/In this Friday.

In his bio he’s described as “a gentleman, a singer of song, a teller of tale, a picker of strings, a thinker of things.” All good things to be as a performer. Rayland, the Kingston Springs, and Birdcloud are all local, so you know that this show is going to get nuts in the best way possible, and you can see it all for free!

All you have to do to enter is by commenting on this blog post and telling me what your favorite Thanksgiving dish is. I’ll even give you a bonus entry if you share the recipe!

I’m picking a winner this Thursday so be sure to get yourself entered ASAP! And tell your friends, because if they win they might bring you with them.

Keep on rockin.

How’s Your Music Presents: Rock the Block

22 Feb

After a pretty long stretch without it, Rock the Block is back tonight with a free show curated by How’s Your Music, a group that likes to book shows and support local bands, which is a totally cool thing to do.

Rock the Block is a totally free show that spans two venues: Exit/In and The End. That makes for a lot of free rock’n'roll music, y’all. That’s like a rock show squared. WHAT? Yes. Twice the rock for the price of none.

Of course, the most important question to consider when going to a free rock show is “who’s playing?” Exit/In will present to you the lovely sounds of Reid Magette, Samantha Harlow, Dylan Rowe, Dylan Jones & Your Friends, and the ever-fantastic Evan P. Donohue.

The End’s lineup doesn’t look too shabby either. It’ll feature performances by The Inscape, Conestyle, Nineteen Eighteen, Casa Castile, and Paper Machete.

The show gets started tonight at 8pm. Get there early, get there late, whatever, just get there and have a good time. Just be careful when you cross that there street during your night of rock (especially after that fancy tequila tasting).

Summer Sets Presents: Sons of Sylvia

24 Aug

You might remember Sons of Sylvia as The Clark Brothers, the guys who won Fox’s “Next Great American Band” title in 2007. After winning the show they got signed, changed their name, and recently released their debut album, titled Revelation, which hit 33 on the Billboard albums chart and 9 on Billboard’s US Rock chart. Now they’re on tour with Carrie Underwood and are taking their time to play a free show at Exit/In on Wednesday August 25th.

Like I said, this show is completely free. It’s 18 and up, but those who are 21 or older get a free gift of some sort (booze?). You have to RSVP for this event, and you can do so by emailing RSVP@vevo.com.

Rock the Block at Exit In: Hosted by Grand Palace

9 Aug

I have to say, Rock the Block has been consistently solid this summer, and they’re not stopping now. Grand Palace, Murfreesboro’s record store/record label/silkscreen printer  is hosting this week’s Rock the Block, and the lineup is HUGE! MASSIVE! SO MANY BANDS WILL BE PLAYING!

Now that you get the general idea, here’s the lineup:

Damn! That’s a lotta rock!

This Rock the Block will take place at Exit/In, as always. It will be held Tuesday, August 10th and starts at 7pm.

Holly House Hosts Rock the Block at Exit/In

22 Jun

If you’re looking for a great free rock show tonight then look no further. Holly House is hosting this week’s Rock the Block at Exit/In, and they have a really fun lineup.

Holly House is a musical collective of a few bands in the Nashville area. They play shows together, jam on each others’ albums, basically they’re a group of great musicians who get together with their friends and make great music. Real community rock.

Tonight at Exit/In you’ll get to see Caitlin RoseAnd the RelativesShoot the Mountain, and Hannah Barbarians (best band name ever). Basically it’s the entirety of Holly House’s main bands minus Tristen.

Even if you haven’t heard of Holly House, I’m sure you’ve heard of at least one of those bands, probably Caitlin Rose, who won 8 off 8th’s Road to Bonnaroo one night and got to play a show at ‘Roo. That means she has a lot of fans who like to go to free shows. Maybe you should become one of them.

Like I said, the event is tonight at Exit/In. It should get started at 8pm.

Nashville Cream Rocks the Block TONIGHT at Exit/In

13 Apr

That’s right, hip(ster) blog the Nashville Cream is hosting tonight’s Rock the Block at Exit/In. Now, if you read the Cream you already know this, but just in case you didn’t I’m going to tell you what is up.

There are going to be some awesome bands, there’s going to be some booze, and there’s going to be a lot of love. It’s going to be a lot like the 8 off 8th we hosted last night at the Mercy Lounge, but without cake and prizes of “dubious quality” (I think).

The bands playing include:

Tim Chad & Sherry
De Novo Dahl
The Clutters
Daniel Pujol
The Dozen Dimes

Yeah, that’s a pretty dang solid set of bands, so you know it’s going to be fun. The first band starts at 9:30, so if you have something you need to do before then (like watch Lost or Glee), DO IT! Also, it’s 18+, so all you college kids who sadly couldn’t get into the 8 off 8th last night will be able to go to this. But like I said, no cake. Sorry.

If De Novo Dahl doesn’t make you dance, you have no soul, FYI.

Weekly Highlights – 1/25/10

24 Jan

Monday

8 off 8th at The Mercy Lounge – 9pm, 21+
Well, the Mercy Lounge’s 7th Anniversary Celebration may be over, but fret not! 8 off 8th is still on, and this week features Details Details, Veldarose, Boroughs, The Compromise, Static Revival, Moon Taxi, Kink Ador, Incredible Heat Machine

Kentucky Knife Fight in-store at Grimey’s – 6pm
When was the last time Grimey’s had an in-store? Well, however long it’s been, it’s been too long. They’re from St. Louis and the Riverfront Times describes them like this: “Imagine the Replacements suffering through sweltering Midwestern summer nights instead of cold Minnesota winters, and infused with a little less punk and a little more dirty twang, and you have Kentucky Knife Fight.” Chance of free beer – 58%. I made that number up, don’t get mad at Grimey’s if there is no free beer.

Familiar Faces Night with Chad Randall and Shawn Carnes at 12th & Porter – 8pm
This event is hosted by Chad Randall and Shawn Carnes.  This week’s artists include Jeffrey James, Marcha Hancock, Steven Wrabel, Jamie Floyd, Kip Moore, Anne-Marie, Mindy McCready, Christina Taddonio, and Air for Astronauts.

Local Authors Adam Shaw and Chad Kinkle discuss and sign Harpe: America’s First Serial Killers at Davis-Kidd Books – 7pm
Support your local authors and chat them up for free. Sure, this is one of those events that are only really free if you already own the book, but it should be fun to talk to the authors. Also, the book is about MUURRRRDERRRR, so that’s interesting, right?

Miller Made Music Showcase at Exit/In this Thursday

16 Dec

Miller Made Showcase FlyerGood lord, Exit/In is being generous this week! The Miller Made Music showcase is only the second of three free shows this week and features some of Nashville’s favorite local bands, The Protomen, Parachute Musical, Tallest Trees, and Majestico!

I imagine that there will be drink specials since, you know, the whole event is being sponsored by Miller.

Take a cue from the guy from the flyer and make sure you’re in the holiday spirit, even if you just end up looking like the Big Lebowski in a Santa outfit.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen my elf costume? I know I left it around here somewhere…

Rock the Block at Exit/In

14 Dec

posterrrrrHallelujah, Rock the Block is back! It’s been awhile, and it doesn’t always have the best players, but we at N4F love free shows no matter how awful they are because, hey, sometimes you have to admit that you get what you pay for.

I’m happy to let you know that this rock the block doesn’t look half bad! The lineup is Elle Macho, Reno Bo, Evan P. Donohue, and Bekah Hailey Band.

Elle Macho could be called David Mead’s Other Band, but it isn’t. It’s still good, though, and I’ve been a David Mead fan for years so of course I’ll like it. They’re totally worth checking out. Maybe David will play some of those childrens’ songs he’s been working on

Reno Bo is a guy I’ve never heard of, but he’s an Electric Western guy who has over 43,000 profile views on MySpace, so that has to mean something, right? Anyway, he’s from New York, is now in Nashville, and lists about a billion influences on his MySpace.

Evan P. Donohue is a Belmont student who really likes Elvis Costello. He’s one of the cool kids so I rarely get to hang out with him. If you’ve heard of him it’s probably because his music is good. He has a Christmas song, you should ask him to play that. It’s about wanting Santa to bring him Rock’n'Roll for Christmas.

The Bekah Hailey Band seems to be new-ish, since I can’t find a lot of info about them online. Their MySpace, however, mentions Alan Jackson, Fleet Foxes, Coldplay, Gogol Bordello, and Three Dog Night as influences. Might be good, who knows.

Here’s the schedule:
8:30 pm: BEKAH HAILEY
9:15 pm: RENO BO
10:00 pm: ELLE MACHO
10:45 pm: EVAN P. DONOHUE

Enjoy.
