Tiffany at 12th and Porter

8 Mar

Hey, remember Tiffany, from the 80s? Well, I don’t personally, as I wasn’t alive for most of the 1980s, but she was a really big deal. Songs like “I Think We’re Alone Now” made her the (insert currently very famous female singer) of the 80s.

She may not have stayed in rotation on MTV since the 80s, but except for a seven-year gap in the 1990s she’s pretty consistently releasing music since she was a teenager.

Oh yeah, and tonight she’s playing a free show at 12th and Porter. I personally wouldn’t expect to hear the old hits, but I’m a cynic about that sort of thing. One thing I would expect? Dance music. Or, I don’t know, a nice acoustic set. But probably dance music. The show will also feature performances by Andi Zach and Mogan Mills.

Again, the show is tonight at 8pm at 12th and Porter.

Westfolk EP Release

2 Sep

Editor’s Note: This blog post was written by our newest contributor, Hilary Blakeney, who was actually hanging out with me when I created N4F. She rocks and deserves a big welcome!

The four-year-long project known as Westfolk originated at Belmont University. We all know some of the bands cranked out of that school aren’t the most original, but these guys are legitimate. Front man, Oscar Anthony’s vocals are as distinct as Yoni’s from WHY?, and the five-piece has harmonies rich enough to warm the soul. I’ll admit when I’m bored with six-minute-long songs. However, Westfolk not only held my attention, but I really enjoyed them as well. Check them out if you don’t know them already. Fortunately, you’ll have the opportunity to do so for free on September 3rd at 12th and Porter.

With the likes of local favorites Natalie Prass and The Hollywood Ten, this EP release show will be one you’ll definitely regret missing. Just check out that sweet line-up! Ride your bike to 12th and Porter and be ready to bob your head at 8 pm sharp. And while you’re there, please unfold your arms long enough to get your hands on this EP, seriously.
