2-4-1 Tuesdays: Rumba Rum Bar & Satay Grill

12 Jul

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

Tuesday nights at Mafioza’s can get pretty dang crowded–especially for larger parties–and for a dang good reason. So every now and then I’ve headed over to Rumba Rum Bar & Satay Grill over on West End for a taste of fine dining and fantastic drink combinations. Two-fer Tuesdays at Rumba are on-par with the rest of the town: 2-4-1 beer and double pours all night (they close at 12 on school nights). Next to signature rum concoctions and delicious small plates, their deep and lively atmosphere is Rumba’s best point. The staff was professional but casual, and they can handle a big party. For a break from Mafioza’s (now that it’s hot as crap outside, am I right?), and for a more upscale affair.

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON – FRI: 2-4-1 beer and double pours from 4p – 6p

TUES: 2-4-1 beer and double pours all night

SUN: 1/2-price bottles of wine from 5p – 10p

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Roosters Texas Style BBQ and Steakhouse

5 Jul

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

Some of Nashville’s finest delicacies were just featured in Man vs. Food Nation last month, including Prince’s Hot Chicken and a short stack from the Pancake Pantry. But the real star of the episode was a relatively new addition to 12th avenue downtown: Roosters Texas Style BBQ and Steakhouse. See, being the new kid on the block hasn’t affected Roosters’ ambition, as they challenge Nashville–and the world–to the Big Roost challenge: a 72oz sirloin steak, full baked potato, enormous salad and two thick slices of texas toast. And it’s absolutely FREE if you finish the whole thing in one hour or less (else it’s a delicious steal at $72). Sounds like a freaking great deal, but bear in mind that only one person has ever conquered that mountain (Zeus?).

And that isn’t even the beginning of Rooster’s dedication to excess. They’ve got a sick bar, live music, a great menu and deal specials galore, including an all you can drink Tuesday. YES. Check it, every Tuesday, head on down to Roosters for all you can drink draft beer for only $10. That’ll save you some money for a cab ride. And with Shiner Bock on draft, I wish every day were a Tuesday. They’ve got a sick happy hour, too, including 3-4-1 drafts for the early birds. Check it out!

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON – FRI: 3-4-1 draft beer from 2 – 4pm, 2-4-1 draft beer from 4 – 7pm, appetizer specials all happy hour

TUES: All you can drink draft beer for $10

SUN: All you can eat chicken, brisket and catfish tacos for $10, domestic beer buckets for $15, import beer buckets for $20.

Get some!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Crow’s Nest

28 Jun

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

Despite being located in the heart of Green Hills, Crow’s Nest has a lot of things going for it. First of all, nothing beats two story establishments (heck, it even makes Decades bearable). Not digging the vibe of floor one? Try out floor two! Not digging the vibe of floor two? Check out the freaking patio. Seriously, how couldn’t you be satisfied? Live music on the weekends, happy hour every weekday, food stuffs… Seriously, Crow’s Nest has it all.

Just don’t try getting there before 6p. Green Hills traffic (am I right?).

Crow’s Nest has a no-BS happy hour policy: half-priced drinks from 2p – 7p, Monday through Friday, period. Doesn’t get any more legit than that, so let’s do 2-4-1′s like god intended: 2-4-1. Holla.

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON – FRI: 2-4-1 drinks from 2 – 7pm

Love it

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Las Cazuelas Mexican Grill

22 Jun

Nothing like a good Huevos con Chorizo with beans–refried, of course–in a flour tortilla. Well, I guess two-for-one margaritas. I’ve been growing quite accustom to my spot in Crieve Hall. Plenty of character a mile away on Nolensville Pike (seriously, that road goes on FOREVER), not to mention tons of food. Have you guys been to that Hibatchi Grill & Buffet? It’s like a battle zone.

Now, I get pretty picky about my Mexican restaurants, but I think we have a real winner at Las Cazuelas Mexican Grill. First of all, it’s right next to the Post Office, and there’s nothing like a couple of margaritas before a good line. Good food all week long, 2-4-1 margaritas all day Monday and Tuesday, live music on the weekends and salsa with a little kick. Nice spot.

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON AND TUES: 2-4-1 margaritas all day!

Keep it simple!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Thursday Edition

So, somewhere between getting stoked for Bonnaroo–wasn’t that so badass?–and getting started at two full-time jobs, I dropped the ball on my favorite gig here at Nashville For Free, and it’s time to catch up. Therefore, I present to you: a Thursday edition two-fer two-fer (I didn’t stutter)… BAM! Urban Flats Flatbread & Wine Co. (the Gulch) and 3 Crow Bar (East Nashville). Read on. (more…)

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Mafioza’s Pizzeria and Neighborhood Pub

31 May

With the one-two punch of pizza and alcohol, Mafioza’s is definitely one of the most popular spots in Nashville on Tuesday nights. And how can you resist? Located in the heart of 12 South, Mafioza’s has tons of outdoor seating, two bars, delicious pizza and a terribly friendly staff. It’s so popular on Tuesdays, in fact, that I would only recommend showing up before 6pm or after 8pm, unless you feel like waiting for half an hour. But even then, grabbing a couple beers from the bar and hanging out isn’t that bad.

Always open late (3pm), Mafioza’s is a good spot any night of the week, but drop by on Sunday and get 2-4-1 beers without the crowd. Regardless, I’m there just about every week on Tuesday night, and despite my experiments at other two-fers, I’m always drawn back to that Italian powerhouse. If you see me, make sure to say “hello”!

HERE’S THE DEALS:

TUES: 2-4-1 pizza slices, well drinks and wine until 9pm, 2-4-1 beer all night

SUN: 2-4-1 beer all night

And make sure you check out our photographer’s Mafioza’s pics from a couple months back!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Red Rooster Bar and Music Hall

25 May

Red Rooster has cleverly marked itself on Demonbreun with two extra large rooster statues (aren’t they green now?). They’re almost as hard to miss as the naked people statue, and the combo really nails the personality from that strip of Nashville. And, I always use those roosters to direct people to Otter’s Chicken Tenders, but don’t tell Red Rooster I said that.

Red Rooster is a pretty hopping bar/dance hall, and like most places, is always packed on Friday and Saturday nights (so much so, dudes get charged a cover). It’s a very spacious place, with a decent-sized dance floor and a stage for bands, DJs or just elevated dancing. They feature some kind of live music just about every night, as has come to be expected in Nashville, but there’s plenty of room to escape the noise and actually have a conversation, if that’s your kind of thing.

And, of course, they bring out the drink specials!

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON: 4pm – 8pm, happy hour! 2-4-1 well drinks, wine and drafts, $2 off appetizers

TUES: 7pm – close,  2-4-1 well drinks, wine and drafts

WED: 7pm – 11pm, $2 domestics, $3 well drinks, 1/2-priced pizza

THUR: 7pm – close, $12 64oz rooster bowls, $10 refills

FRI: 4pm – 8pm, happy hour! 2-4-1 well drinks, wine and drafts, $2 off appetizers

Oh, and try to resist jumping on top of the roosters out front. They frown upon it…

2-4-1 Tuesdays: The Melrose

17 May

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

There are several contenders for the best burger in Nashville, and The Melrose is no weak one. Can’t say I’ve tried them all, but you’ll have a hard time tearing me away from Fat Mo’s. Regardless, The Melrose has a one-up on several of those burger joints–other than it’s incredible atmosphere–and that’s its ability to serve alcohol and a Thursday two-fer night.

If you’ve neglected that cock-eyed owl on eighth south over your time in Nashville, then you’re missing out. It’s a huge space with plenty of TVs, a large bar, great service, classic decor and pretty fantastic food (burgers included). They’ve got trivia on Tuesday nights and drink specials every day of the week, so check it out!

THE DEALS:

MON – FRI: 4 – 7p, Happy Hour! $1 off appetizers, liquor, wine and most beers

THURS: Starting at 4p, 2-4-1 beer and pitchers all night, 2-4-1 cocktails until 10p

SAT: 10 – 7p, $2 domestic drafts, $3.50 micro drafts, $4 well drinks

SUN: $2 beer and $3.50 micro brew all day, $4 well drinks until 10p

2-4-1 Tuesday: Yelp Drinks Week and the Band of Boozers March

10 May

So, apparently Nashville is the “soberest” city in the United States? I know, I don’t get it either. Maybe it’s the relatively high cost of alcoholic beverages, or something about being in the bible belt, or maybe I’m just really out of touch with who Nashville is. Seriously, Wichita is drunker than we are. WHAT THE HECK! Now, the criteria for the Daily Beast’s survey seemed to look more at alcoholism than anything else, but I’m far from being proud of the distinction:

  • percentage of adults who are heavy drinkers (2.4)
  • percentage of adults who are binge drinkers (7.9)
  • deaths per 100,000 residents from alcoholic liver disease (2.5)
  • average number of drinks consumed per person in a typical month (8.92)

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time believing that Nashvillians consume a mere 8.92 alcoholic drinks on a monthly basis (that’s easily an uneventful weekend for myself). I think Tex Rambunctious sums it up pretty well:

We’ve got something to prove, friends, and Yelp has partnered with ten local bars and restaurants to throw a little fun into our retaliation. There are a ton of participating venues and a ton of events, so get ready. They’re calling it Yelp Drinks Week, and it started yesterday.

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Flying Saucer Draught Emporium

3 May

While I have never had the pleasure of knowing someone with a plate on the wall, that kind of dedication from its patrons says something about the establishment. For those unawares, the Flying Saucer (tucked away by the Frist downtown), features over 200 brews, many of those on draft, and rewards its patrons with a plate on their wall if they manage to taste them all (not in one sitting). I have mad respect for the bartenders working there, because I can’t even imagine the brainpower it takes to memorize where all of those taps are, what’s still available, and who I was serving to begin with. The Flying Saucer experience is definitely one to be rivaled in Nashville.

Needless to say, lots of good times are had there. They’ve got plenty of comfy seating, good food, good service, darts, pool and WIFI. Holla. And did I mention they have something going on nearly every day of the week? Also, they’re huge Preds supporters, and tend to surprise you with random specials not on the calendar, so follow their Twitter for the most up-to-date info.

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON: Pint Nite! Almost all of their pints are $3.00 after 5pm (a steal if you’re picking up a heavier brew like Guinness or something).

THURS: American Pint Nite. $2.75 American pints from 5:30 – 7:30pm. $3.50 American pints from 9pm – midnight.

SUN: Yazoo, Highland, Terrapin & Sweetwater pints are $3.00 all day.

Know any good drink specials around town? Hit us up, we’re always looking for the next best thing!
