2-4-1 Tuesdays: Tin Roof

18 Oct

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

This place is quirky and it knows it. Live music (sometimes at 6pm), crazy rustic decor, plastic “silverware”, pizza quesadillas… heck if nothing else that’s freakin’ intriguing. Throw in some respectable drink specials from 2 – 7pm daily, and you’ve got an energetic spot for partying in daylight (don’t judge).

With a foothold on Demonbruen and in Cool Springs, Tin Roof is well-represented in the Nashville area and features live music nearly every night at both locations. They stay true to their name, too: you’ll find tin somewhere above your head wherever you go. Their drink specials are different depending on your location, but one thing that remains the same is their happy hour, check it out:

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON – FRI: $2 bud light and miller light, $3 drafts and $4 well drinks from 2 – 7pm

WED: Cool Springs-only; $5 quesadillas and $2 drafts all day

THURS: Demonbruen-only; $5 pitchers of bud light, miller light and yeungling from 7pm to close

Sincerely sauced

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Vinea

I’ll admit that this column tends to lack what some might call “class”. But let’s be real, we live in the land of hipsters. Personally, “class” is overrated, but that won’t stop me from reporting on fancier affairs around town when they come up. Fair warning, though: this week’s 2-4-1 Tuesday has absolutely nothing to do with Tuesday.

Vinea is a cool little wine shop in 12 South. They feature 10% off on different classes of wine nearly every day and host impressive wine tastings every Saturday with their friends next door: Mafioza’s. As you’d expect, the staff at Vinea is very knowledgeable and has a wine recommendation for any occasion/pairing. And since I’ve seen Sideways, I know more about wine tasting than anyone else (can’t you just taste the sarcasm?). Watch out.

HERE’S THE DEALS:

SAT: Free wine tasting at Mafioza’s from 3 to 5pm

See you there?

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Jackson’s Bar & Bistro

I’m legitimately surprised that we haven’t written about this spot yet, given it seems like a natural choice. Nestled in the heart of the oh-so-adorable Hillsboro Village, this place was built for people-walking. It’s got enough windows to give you motion sickness (not sure what I meant by that one), and on a nice night they’ll open the place wide open for you. I’ve had some good times out there, and pissed off more than one server (bad story, big tip).

I’d save this place for a nice day and sit outside, you never know who you’re going to see walking by. They’ve got a full-service happy hour from 11 – 6p Monday through Wednesday, with all-night-long specials on Tuesday and 1/2-off bottles of wine on Sundays. It’s a handy way to get drunk before hitting the Pancake Pantry (and it makes the lines more bearable). Check it out!

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON and WEDN: 2-for-1 beers, well and call drinks from 11a – 6p

TUES: 2-for-1 beers, well and call drinks from 5p – 10p, 2-for-1 beers until close

SUN: half-priced bottles of wine from 3p – close

You know what to do

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Apps to Get You Drunk

13 Sep

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

If you’re one of the 40% of Americans with a smartphone, chances are you’re glued to it as if your life depended on checking Twitter every five minutes. It’s a game changer. Supposedly these devices are making us more productive, but let’s be honest: how many hours/days have we wasted on Angry Birds? So let’s throw productivity out the door for a minute and talk about the gift that keeps on giving: happy hour.

There’s an app for pretty much anything, so why not keep us up posted on local drink specials? There are two popular apps right now that offer this to Nashville and the rest of the country: Great Owl Technologies’ DrinkOwl and GoTime’s Happy Hours. They both provide relatively the same information, with Happy Hours available on more devices and DrinkOwl including retailers and coupons, in addition to their drink specials. On both, you can look on the map to see which happy hour is closest to you, and Happy Hours will even pick one for you with its “shake” functionality.

Personally, DrinkOwl hooked me with its cute mascot (top right) and a seamless design. Neither app allows user-submitted specials–relying instead on business owners to report their deals to the services. This is great for accuracy but results in a limited directory, particularly in the Nashville area. Of course, this database will only continue to grow and these apps are already great additions to your 2-4-1 Tuesday knowledge base.

HERE’S THE DEALS:

DrinkOwl: app store, android market

Happy Hours: app store, android market, blackberry, mobile web

Drink on!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Shooters Bar and Grill

6 Sep

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

If there’s one thing I love about Shooters, it’s definitely its website. Seriously, best thing to ever happen to web design. Alright, I kid (and what does your website really say about your restaurant anyway?). There’s a lot to love about Shooters! First of all, free games of cornhole. If you’ve never played, it’s pretty easy: get the bag of corn to go into the hole. Not a bad game, best when played intoxicated. Also fun while intoxicated: Golden Tee. Plus they’ve got billiards, darts, a patio… AND free poker from Sunday through Wednesday… AND free karaoke Thursday through Saturday. Geez, the list never ends.

But for real, if there’s one thing I love about Shooters, it’s its drink specials! They’re so good that it comes as no surprise that Shooters is located a little ways outside of the city (Hermitage, to be exact). They keep it pretty simple, too, every day from noon to 7pm you can help yourself to deals on domestic brews. Or, drop by on Ladies Night (Thursday, is that a universal fact?) and get yourself 2-4-1 well drinks all day and night, as well as $5 bombs. Check it:

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON – SUN: Happy Hour from 3pm – 7pm, $1.75 domestic long necks, $1.50 drafts, and $10.50 buckets

THURS: Ladies Night! All of the above, plus 2-4-1 well drinks and $5 bombs

Party on

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Chuy’s Fine Tex Mex

23 Aug

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

For some reason, being in Tennessee I meet a lot of people from Texas. And the first thing I learned about Texas is its people are PROUD. Sure, y’all were your own country at one point (how’d that work out?) but sometimes you can be a little much. I know, I only marginally enjoy King of the Hill, so I don’t get it at all. The Northern blood in me just wipes out any notion of state patriotism, sorry it’s a lost cause. But if there’s one thing I do understand, it’s that proximity to Mexico = good Mexican food. That’s why Nashville’s latest import from Texas–Chuy’s Fine Tex Mex in Cool Springs and Murfreesboro–is some of the finest Mexican food in the area.

Chuy’s only downside is how popular it is. Expect a wait around dinner time, but help yourself to unlimited free chips, salsa and queso at the bar. Heck, forget dinner and just enjoy their kickass Happy Hour. Cheap domestics and chips are enough to keep me around, and if you happen to be in Cool Springs or Murfreesboro between 4 and 7p, what’s stopping you?

HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON – FRI: Happy hour from 4 – 7p, $2.50 domestics, $7.25 Texas martinis (yum!) and $4 fully loaded nacho cars!

Be merry!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon

16 Aug

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

I don’t know about you, but I don’t make it downtown very often. In fact, other than a show at the Ryman, the occasional art crawl or to show around some out-of-town visitors, I avoid downtown Nashville in its entirety. Absolutely nothing about a congested Broadway and thousands old, drunk tourists screams “Happy Hour” to me, and as such, I typically do my afternoon drinking at least five miles away from 2nd street. Can you blame me?

But of course, there is one thing that will convince me to break my drinking habits and suffer downtown: drink specials. I’m a sucker for a good deal, if you couldn’t tell. And though you usually don’t find many good ones downtown, McFadden’s really breaks the mold. See most of these bars downtown don’t bother with many specials, under the assumption that people will come in regardless (they will). Yet McFadden’s does it anyway, offering specials every night of the week, even going all night on Friday and Saturdays (talk about a rare deal). Sounds like McFadden’s is gonna start sucking me into downtown a little more often.
HERE’S THE DEALS:

MON: $2 PBR and $4 Killian’s all night

TUES: 2-4-1 well drinks until 10p, 2-4-1 domestic drafts all night

WEDN: $3 draft and house wine all night, free salsa lessons and free poker at 7p

THUR: $5 martinis until 10p, $2 Michelo Ultra bottles all night

FRI: $2 Corona Bottles all night

SAT: $5 Fireball all night

SUN: $2 PBR, $15 Cruzan Rum Buckets, $5 Bloody Mary’s ad $6 Bottomless Mimosas from 11a – 8p

Get some!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Time Out Sports Bar

9 Aug

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

Y’all, I made a terrible mistake this Friday, and I’m about to recommend that you do it as well. See, an opportunity presented itself at the Time Out Sports Bar up in Brentwood, and I just couldn’t pass it up. FREE BEER FRIDAY. Not even kidding you, from 6 – 8p every Friday you can enjoy an unlimited supply of Nati Light draft for the cost of a generous tip. And if that isn’t “college” enough for you, get this: they serve you with red plastic cups. And they don’t stop there, from 6 – 10p every Friday they have $5 Jager Bombs and 2-4-1 domestic bottles. I think Time Out is on to something…

Now, just this information alone isn’t necessarily dangerous unless acted upon. Getting drunk before 8p isn’t nearly as fun as you might expect it to be (even less fun is throwing up at 8:30p. It wasn’t me, but I’ll take responsibility for it). So remember: just because it’s virtually free doesn’t mean you should drink as much as possible within the allotted time. Or eat some food, first. Or don’t get a Jager Bomb after you’re three cups deep. Just don’t act like a dumbass college student.
HERE’S THE DEALS:

EVERY DAY (except Tues): 2-4-1 domestic bottles until 11p

TUES: 2-4-1 domestic bottles until 8p, $10 domestic buckets until 11p

FRI: FREE BEER FRIDAY, free Nati Light from 6 – 8p, $5 Jager Bombs until 10p

Party!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Cabana Restaurant

2 Aug

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

Approximately once a fortnight (usually around Monday) I have the standard apocalyptic nightmare that I’ve exhausted every drink special and two-for-one deal in the greater Nashville area and that, as such, our favorite column is done for, kaput, irrelevant. But never fear! It’s at those moments I realize that we’ve only scratched the surface, and I still haven’t shared about some of my favorite spots. Case in point: Cabana.

For those unawares, Cabana is that hot spot off of Wedgewood with the neon blue glow. It’s a bar and restaurant with a flashy interior and top-of-the-line amenities (a television for your booth, anyone?). They host poker tournaments on Monday and Wednesday at 11pm, but more importantly: 2-4-1 drafts and pizza all day and night, Sunday through Tuesday. Their pizza, by the way, is effin’ delicious and remarkably cheap for the quality. Always the fail safe for a hot date, bring anyone to Cabana and they’re bound to be just a little bit impressed.

HERE’S THE DEALS:

SUN – TUES: 2-4-1 draft beer and pizza, 4pm – 2am

WEDN: Girl’s Night Out! $3 house wines, house drinks, house martinis and GNO appetizers

Yeehaw!

2-4-1 Tuesdays: Taco Mamacita

26 Jul

2-4-1 Tuesdays is a weekly feature on Nashville for Free highlighting local happy hours and other drink specials, delivered every Tuesday afternoon. If you hear of any great deals or would like to see your favorite bar covered, let us know in the comments. Drink responsibly!

There’s a lot of charming spots in Edgehill Village, and Taco Mamacita is always the brightest. With the cutest logo in town and some seriously gourmet tacos (the Carribean Jerk is amazing), their margaritas are just icing on the cake. And you know they cater to hipsters, too, pairing PBR with a shot of tequila in their signature Dirty Sanchez. I’ve known a couple of Taco Mamacita’s venerable mayors, but I always seem to be five days behind someone else… You can catch Taco Mamacita celebrating their phenomenal drinks with two special days: 2-4-1 Wednesdays and Sangria Sundays. Check it out!

HERE’S THE DEALS:

WEDN: 2-4-1 margaritas (only The Elvez and El Camino) from 4pm to close

SUN: 1/2-priced sangria all day
