Daniel Johnston at Lipscomb’s Alumni Auditorium

As Wikipedia so gently puts it, Daniel Johntson is an “American singer, songwriter, musician, and artist.”

He may not be incredibly famous, but he has the respect of countless musicians and critics, including Kurt Cobain, who brought a lot of attention to Johnston when he wore one of his shirts on TV.

But it was the 2006 documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston that has brought a lot of attention to Johnston in recent years. The film was 4 years in the making and not only features his music, but tells the story of his life from childhood and discusses his battles with mental illness.

Daniel Johnston will be speaking and performing at one of the least likely places today: Lipscomb University.

He’ll be performing at the Hutcheson Gallery Alumni Auditorium tonight at 8pm in conjunction with his solo art show.

This is going to be a great event, so do what you can to make it out.
