Monday

Blame Canada! A Tribute to the Music of the Great White North at Mercy Lounge – 9pm, 21+
Tonight’s free show is a special “eh-t off 8th” that will feature the fine tunes of Rush, Loverboy, Aldo Nova, April Wine, Kim Mitchell, and more.

Blair Nightcap Series: Columbus Day Celebration at Blair’s Turner Recital Hall – 8pm
Celebrate Columbus Day with a performance with Amanda Virelles on piano. It’ll feature works by Spanish and Latin-American composers. It’ll even be recorded for later broadcast on WNPT-2 and VUcast.

Musical Petting Zoo with Instrument Demonstration at the Green Hills Public Library – 10:30am
Bang a drum, strum an autoharp, and pick a steel guitar! The Musical Petting Zoo offers budding musicians a chance to try new and familiar instruments. Instructors will be on site to offer guidance. At the beginning of the program a professional musician will demonstrate how to play some of the instruments. All ages. No reservations required. Free. Families are encouraged to tour the museum at a discounted rate following the program. Visit the information desk or ticket window for more information. Seriously, the best way to get kids into music is to teach them the fun of it at a young age.

Tuesday

JD Souther In-Store at Grimey’s – 6pm
For the record, this guy has written hits for The Eagles and Linda Ronstadt and has worked with Jackson Brown, Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, and more. If you’re not planning on living a life of regrets I suggest you hit this up.

Team Green Full Moon Hike – 7:30pm
Get your hike on under the full moon. I’ve always meant to go on one of these. It’s about a 4.5 mile hike so bring good shoes, a flashlight, and some water. Meet at 7:30 Edwin Warner Park Pavilion #9 Off Vaughn Road. Drive past the nature center to the very back pavilion.

Men’s High Heel Race benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters at Hall of Fame Park – 6pm
It may not be free to participate, but it’s free to watch, and isn’t that the important part? If you want to participate bring $25 and show up 30 minutes early. Oh, and bring your own high heels.

Wednesday

Old Time Jam at the 5 Spot – 7:30pm
East Nashville’s Wednesday Night Old Time Jam provides enthusiasts of traditional, acoustic-based roots music the opportunity to regularly meet, share tunes, dance, swap stories, and bond together in general camaraderie.

Vanderbilt Orchestra and Vanderbilt Concert Winds at Blair’s Ingram Hall – 8pm
Yay free classical music.

Thursday

Elephant Revival in-store at Grimey’s – 6pm
Grimey’s describes them as “transcendental folk.” They’re here as part of the Americana Music Association Festival, so if you couldn’t dish out the money to attend (but really wanted to) check out this in-store.

Live on the Green at Public Square Park – 5:30pm
This week’s Live on the Green will feature performances by Here Come the Mummies, H-Beam, and Eastern Block. As always, there will be vendors, food trucks, and other fun stuff.

Friday

PUJOL In-Store at Grimey’s – 6pm
In case you haven’t heard, PUJOL just got signed to Saddle Creek and are about to go national. They have a new EP called Nasty, Brutish, and Short coming out next week, but if you attend the in-store you can buy it a few days early at Grimey’s.

Light the Night Walk 2011 at LP Field – 7:30pm
Light the Night is a walk to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer in communities throughout the United States and Canada. This year’s leisurely 2.2 mile walk will feature live music, food, and children’s activities.

Southern Festival of Books at Legislative Plaza – 12pm-6pm
Book lovers rejoice! There will be 200 authors, readings, panels, book signings, and other awesome stuff, including music. Wahoo!

Saturday

Southern Festival of Books at Legislative Plaza – 9am-6pm
The 1861 Project will be performing today as part of the Americana Festival (kind of). There will still be books and whatnot to enjoy.

Musicians Corner at Centennial Park – 3-6pm
This week’s Musicians Corner is part of the Americana Festival and is (at least partially) a tribute to the great Tom T. Hall. It’ll feature performances by Nanci Griffith, Ben Sollee, Peter Cooper, Eric Brace, and Jim Lauderdale. Also, Brian Wright and Caitlyn Smith will be there.

Americanarama IV at Grimey’s – 10am-8pm
It’s Grimey’s big outdoor sale and their annual Americanarama show mixed into one! There will be a huge sale, 10-12 live acts, local food vendors, and more. Put this one on your calendars ASAP.

3rd Annual Mars Petcare Adoption Fair at Mars Petcare – 10am-3pm
More than 20 breed rescues and shelters from surrounding counties will participate in the Third Annual MARS PETCARE Adoption Fair at MARS Petcare Headquarters in Franklin, TN. Various breeds of dogs and cats will be available for adoption. Go to the free fair and enjoy free food and drinks, kids’ activities, music, balloon artist, dog kissing booth (ick) and paw painting.

Healthy Me, Healthy You at Discovery Center at Murfree Spring – 10am-4pm
Learn how to get fit and get healthy with Murfreesboro City Schools & Discovery Center. Enjoy healthy snacks, jump in the bounce house, join in fun fitness demonstrations and explore their new exhibit Run! Jump! Fly! Adventures in Action!

The National Underground Grand Opening downtown – 8pm
It’s the newest music venue and restaurant downtown and it’s owned by Gavin and Joey DeGraw. It’s going to be right across from the Hard Rock Cafe and the opening celebration will include performances by Joe DeGraw, Hilary Williams, The Cold Stares, and the Eric Jon Band.

Fall Festival at Blakeford at Green Hills – 11am-2pm
Come enjoy “The Western Swingers” band performing live at Blakeford’s Fall Festival, also featuring pumpkin painting, balloon artist, a Farmer’s Market with jams, breads, local honey, jewelry and more! Inflatable slide for the children.
