It was dead, but it has been revived thanks to Vitaminwater Revive (get it?). You don’t have to be a music snob to play, but from personal experience it really doesn’t hurt…usually. Keep this in mind – Roger McGuinn, founder of the Byrds, adores her, and you know that he just has to have awesome taste.

Poet’s Corner Featuring Stellasue Lee at the Scarritt-Bennett Center – 7pm
Poet’s Corner is a monthly poetry reading/informal discussion featuring a local poet. This month it’s Anne Doolittle. If you dig poetry you’ll like this. Don’t forget to bring your black turtle-necks and fingers. For snapping. But seriously, Scarritt-Bennett’s Gallery F is a really cool place, and Lee’s books have been entrants for a Pulitzer Prize, Firecracker Red, a powerful collection of poems set squarely in the earth, and Crossing The Double Yellow Line, a journey of sharp turns and hair-pin curves. Legit all-around.

Live music, affordable food, prizes, and giveaways. The concerts are held under the Cool Covered Pavilion Event Shelter with a snack and beverage station nearby. The musical guests offer a wide variety of musical genres including jazz, blues, pop, rock rhythm and blues.

Originating in 1854, the picnic is known for its famous barbecue pork and the secret sauce than ranks it among the most delectable barbecue ever tasted. The first Irish Picnic was held to raise funds for a new church bell for St. Patrick Church. Local farmers donated pigs and sheep for the fundraising meals that fed the railroad community of McEwen. Efforts were so successful that generations of church members and other volunteers have turned it into a community project with proceeds being used for the financial support of St. Patrick School.
